Today just a quick post with an image I finishied this morning.

It was part of a shoot from last year for my exhibition GLAUBE | LIEBE | HOFFNUNG. A different, let’s say somewhat more subtle image made the cut back than. But me and the amazingly talented model André Sommerfeld had such a fun time shooting this, it would have been a pitty if this didn’t see the light of day.
Happy Weekend!

I am spending the hot summer evenings this year to shoot some old fashioned film. I bought a used Mamyia RZ67 in the winter and added a Hasselblad 500c/m in spring to the collection. I love my Mamyia, it feels much more potent than the Hasselblad, which in turn is easier to shoot without a tripod.

As you may notice these aren’t your typical Nicolas Henri pictures. For some reason these old analogue cameras take me to other places and take different pictures than I usually would. Don’t worry, I won’t turn into one of those photographers who turns his back against digital in a hysteria of supposed individualism. I just enjoy shooting different stuff in different ways and working with film and cumbersome cameras seems to help me doing that.

If you’ve been wondering whether to take the plunge into analogue shooting however, I strongly encourage you! It’s easier than you might imagine! Film has a life of it’s own. Add an old camera to it and you’ll be in for some surprises. Not every exposure is technically perfect and you dont have the instant digital feedack, you’re used to. You’ll have to wait at least a day to get your developed negs back, which adds to the mystery of what you’ve achieved. I have often experienced that the results vary drastically from what I’ve expected… and I love that! Shooting digital, I always know and control what is happening. Shooting on film, I feel like I am giving away part of that control to chance… and suddenly you realize that a good picture is not made of technical perfection or total control!

Enjoy your summer! Shoot stuff you normally wouldn’t… no matter if analogue or digital!
